Let's go back to a time when Hip Hop was about more than partying and thuggin. Back in the 80's hip hop was used as a tool to address community ills like: black on black crime (Self Destruction, and All in the Same Gang). We had songs that tackled tough sbjects like drug use, the treatment of women, and giving back to the community.

Nowadays, the mainstream Hip Hop Artist tends to focus on filling his pockets, and basically adhering to whatever the current "Pop" trends.

Imagine my excitement when I heard that Kanye West was making a song to expose the world to the conflict diamond situation in Sierra Leone. Now imagine my disappointment when I heard the radio version. Kanye explained a lot. He gave detailed accounts about how he doesn't write his rhymes, he thinks em. Or how he throws tantrums like a 3 year old. He bragged and boasted about how nice he was. What he neglected to tell us was, anything about the conflict in Sierra Leone.

I am not sure how old this link or song is, but when I came across it, I felt pride. I am happy that Lupe took some time to put together this song. And it's good to know that there are some people that actually care...
