For real. I saw Talib Kweli at the Granada in Lawrence this past year and the show was boomin...... Aside from all tracks presented in the show (mostly to promote "Ear Drum") my favorite was his Old School tribute. In fact, the montage he played during the performance summed up the last 25+ years of hip-hop. Does anybody know where one might get a copy of this montage? It gave me chills; straight up...... After the show, there were a couple of people bangin' the drums outside of the theatre and of course, the po-po broke up the performance. Inspired my the Kwel' perfomance moments before (and his shout outs to KRS), the (older) crowd startd yelling "Woop woop.....that's the sound of the Police....woop woop......." You know the rest. Of course, the younger crowd picked it up and perhaps, went home and looked this song up. That's what I love about real guys like Talib Kweli. Not only do they provide boomin beats and liquid lyrics, but they pay respects to those who inspired them to BE, unlike many artists in all genres of music (cough....Elvis("was a hero to most, but he never meant shit to me" Thanks Chuck)). This gives kids exposure to music that otherwise, may not be readily available to them. I really appreciate that. Damn, I love this music.

Hip hop has not been and will never be anywhere near being dead. The problem is that certain people view certain rap music as garbage, but it is all hip hop. From Talib Kweli to the Ying Yang Twins. You might not like it, but it is hip hop. Go buy what you want to listen to. Now excuse me while i go listen to the best of Sir-Mixalot! I got Game!
